Executive Order
Inherent Power A rule or law issued by the President, acting as the head of the Executive Branch, to Federal Administrative Agencies. An executive order does not require Congressional consent. |
Line Item Veto
The power of a President, or other executive branch leader, to reject individual provisions of a bill. Presidents want a line item veto because the executive branch is given the opportunity to eliminate wasteful provisions. However, Congress does not want the President to have since it the legislature's job to amend bills and believe the line item veto gives the President too much power. |
